Wattyl, in conjunction with TAFE Institutes across Australia, is pleased to offer to retail stockists a training program in the form of the PaintWorks Paint Consultant Program. The course is aimed at paint reseller staff and caters for the novice as well as more experienced retail sales staff.

The PaintWorks Paint Consultant Program has been designed to give a working knowledge of paint, paint application and paint processes. By employing the resources of the TAFE Institutes, Wattyl has been able to gain the benefits of both fully qualified TAFE trainers and purpose built training facilities. 

PaintWorks is made up of a mix of both theoretical training as well as practical ''hands on" demonstrations. Under the guidance of the TAFE trainers, participants are given the opportunity to use a wide range of Wattyl paints and stains in a variety of situations.

The PaintWorks Paint Consultant Program is made up of six separate training modules;

Module 1, Paint Foundations (1 day); gives an introduction to paint and its application. Participants learn first hand the correct  use of primers, sealers and undercoats on a variety of surfaces and substrates.

Module 2,Exterior (1day); follows on from the basics taught in Module 1, Paint Foundations. This module focuses on exterior paint systems including Solagard, exterior stains and other exterior finishes.

Module 3, Interior (1day); focuses on the various Wattyl interior paint and wood finishing systems. A proportion of the day is devoted to hands-on application of various stains and clear finishes within the Wattyl range.

Module 4, Decorative Effects (1day); explains and demonstrates the Wattyl decorative effects range of products. A feature of the day is hands-on application of Pearl Finish, Stone Effects and Colourwash. Decorative effects such as sponging, rag rolling, stippling and dragging are also demonstrated in this module.

Module 5, Timber Floor and Decking Finishes (1 day); explains and demonstrates the Wattyl range of floor and decking finishes. Participants are given the opportunity to use a range of products from the Wattyl floor care range including Estapol 7008 and Estapol Tung Oil.

Module 6, Colour (2 days); is designed to provide an introduction to and explanation of colour theory as well as the correct use of colour and colour planning. Participants are given a basic overview on the correct use of colour in a variety of situations.
